Tip: Speak to those with Interpersonal Intelligence

Leadership is about communication. Either you speak to the persons you lead, or at the very least they speak about you. Gandhi is an example of a leader spoken about, whereas President Obama is a brilliant speaker. Some, like General Sheridan, we speak about long after they are gone, at least in history class.

The five parts of Interpersonal Intelligence

What Is Interpersonal Intelligence, at Mystic Madness they name the building blocks:

  1. Verbal communication - public speaking, blogs, newsletters, reports, etc.

  2. Non-verbal communication - body language, but also leading by example.

  3. Attitude towards situation perspective - to learn and adapt from the different perspectives.

  4. Ability to create Relationships - to create strong and long-lasting relationships.

  5. Ability to resolve conflicts within the group - having a true perception of the environment and judging well the opposing characters.

The group with which you work is composed of persons with different levels of Interpersonal Intelligence, those with high levels have great impact on their environment.

Imagine a group of people and draw lines on the floor between those who frequently communicate. Within short a pattern will emerge, some people have many more lines than others... those are the ones a leader needs to know.

Speak to those that speak to many

Today's tip is simply this: If you want to have great impact on a large group of people, rally persons with high levels of Interpersonal Intelligence around you. Speak to them and they will speak to many.

Do you have any personal experience to share? Have you seen this tip applied?
