Everyone has a love-affair with their company

What we all want is to be seen, to belong, to be someone - it's a basic human need. We seek meaning. If we belong to a group, or organization, that makes us proud, the emotional link brings loyalty and motivation.

The recent flare-up about Corporate Responsibility (CR), with some defending that the company's sole purpose is making profit and others - as Shannon Schuyler in the Huffington Post - that "companies that consider environmental, social and governance issues outperform competitors that don't", makes me think that it really is a leadership issue.

It's called a financial result, because it is the result of a set of human actions and behaviours. Not the other way around, that the financials must always dictate our behaviour. It's a safer bet that motivated people make profitable companies than that profitable companies make motivated people!
